Governors’ Private Camp is situated in one of the best areas in Maasai Mara National Reserve in Kenya. It is part of Governors’ Camp Collection, one of the longest-established groups of camps in the Mara.
Governors’ Private Camp consists of 8 tents, all with an ensuite bathroom with a bucket shower, and a private veranda. It is not sold on an exclusive basis, but if one takes six tents, it becomes exclusive. The camp is simple, but it resonates with people who want to relive the old school safari experience. There is no electricity available in the camp, but traditional gas lamps and candles take you back to a simpler time.
The Mara plays host to the Great Wildebeest Migration from July to October, meaning lions and other predators are never far away. And Governor’s Private Camp is in the very heart of the action … renowned as the base for much of the filming of The Big Cat Diaries. The camp is nestled in the forests along the banks of the Mara River at a spot teeming with hippo. On occasion, the wildebeest have been known to cross the Mara River right in front of Camp!
As a result, the camp is often the base for photographic safaris, specializing in wildlife photography. Private vehicles and experienced guides serve to enhance the wildlife viewing experience. For a different perspective, hot air balloon safaris offer sweeping views of the Maasai Mara and the immense movement of animals across Africa’s Great Plains in Kenya.
During peak travel months, vehicle traffic and heavy congestion is common.
