Speke’s Camp

Speke’s Camp, is an eight tent safari camp situated on the edge of the Maasai Mara Reserve, surrounded by indigenous trees overhanging the Olare Orok River. Speke’s is a simple, comfortable tented camp in a great game-viewing area. Each tent has a flush toilet and hot bucket showers. The whole camp runs on solar power. The décor is quirky, it is not polished luxury but feels homey and comfortable. The guides, management and staff are friendly and the service is warm if not 100% polished. We love the camp’s laid back atmosphere.

Because it is a simpler camp, Speke’s has a great price point for a camp in the Mara. We think it is perfect for clients who are more budget conscious and are more concerned with experience than luxury accommodation. All in all we really like Speke’s for the right client and thinks it offers great value for money.

In addition to sundowners, picnics and game drives inside the Maasai Mara Reserve, Speke’s Camp is known for multi-day walks across the Maasai plains and the Loita Hills with its partner property Jan’s Camp.
