Where to Travel in August

Warm temperatures and little rain make for an optimal safari experience in Kenya. With the lush greenery taking over the plains, August is the best month to visit Kenya and experience the wildebeest migration across the Maasai Mara.

Here’s our list of the best places to visit in August:

  • Wildebeest Migration Crossings in Tanzania and Kenya Millions of wildebeest are migrating all over the Serengeti Desert in Tanzania year round.  But one of the most exciting ventures the wildebeest will make is crossing the Mara River.  The herds overtake the river in a marvelous spectacle.  If you’re wanting to be one with nature, mobile camps are available to follow the herd as it moves around, searching for lush pastures after rainfall. Catching the herd is a memory you surely won’t forget!
  • Whale Calving Season in Cape Town   Plan your trip to Cape Town in August to get up close to southern right whales and their newborn calves. Every year these whales migrate back to the Cape from Antarctica to calve and nurse their young. You may even catch a glimpse of humpback or Byrde’s whales too, what’s not to love?
  • Swim with Humpbacks in Western Australia Take a trip to Western Oz to take a swim in the marine home of one of the world’s largest mammals – the humpback whale.  This species of whales is known for being extremely intelligent and has the ability to push their weight completely out of the water for a spectacular water show.
  • International Tango Festival in Buenos Aires Argentina’s largest city, and its capital, Buenos Aires, is home to the International Tango Festival. Enjoy two weeks of concerts, shows, classes and milongas.  Whether you choose to watch or dance is up to you!
