Tafika is a great owner-run and operated camp in South Luangwa. When you stay at Tafika you really are a family guest and friend of the Coppingers, living out their passion for Africa. The welcoming and warm atmosphere really is one of the most attractive features of Tafika. If you are looking for polished luxury then may not be the right choice but it is perfect if you want an authentic, no-frills experience full of unique activities. On a recent visit in 36-hours we managed to go a long bushwalk, a mountain bike ride, and a few game drives. You can also visit the local village, which the Tafika Trust supports.
This camp is rebuilt every year from scratch so everything is rather simple but very comfortable. The large main area is very inviting with lots of shade from the trees and you can doze on hammocks, gazing out over the river All the rooms are pretty much the same, spacious reed structures built under leadwood trees with outdoor showers. The family room has an extra bedroom. The rooms are comfortable and functional and support the goal of going out and doing things as opposed to hanging out and relaxing in your room all day. But when you do just want to read your book in the after-noon then we encourage you to sit in the main area or in the hammocks.
We really fell in love with this camp; its classic, simple style and love that you really can feel the passion of the owners.
Tafika is also the logistics camp for Remote Africa’s Chikoko Trails walking safaris which includes the more basic walking camps of Chikoko Tree Camp and Crocodile Camp.
