Kapani Lodge
Open year round, Norman Carr’s Kapani Lodge is located just outside the South Luangwa National Park, 40 minutes from Mfuwe Airport. We like this property for beginning your Zambian Safari as it eases you in slowly – bricks and mortar before canvas and reed camps.
Comfortable thatched rooms have rustic appeal and the lounge is a terrific place to relax. You can cool off in the pool, savor a glass of wine before a roaring fire in the evenings, and enjoy al fresco meals on the deck.
During the wetter season, game drives are concentrated around the central parts of the reserve, sticking mostly to the main roads, but in this superb wildlife area you will still see plenty of big game, cats, and wild dogs as well as buck and small predators. It is also the area where you will get the best photos as the wildlife is prolific and comfortable in the presence of vehicles. Some of the best game viewing is actually during Zambia’s green season between January and March.
Norman Carr is very involved with the community, and at Kapani Lodge, you have the opportunity of visiting the local village and the anti-poaching operations. All in all, this is definitely one of the best of the larger lodges in South Luangwa.
