Mchenja is part of the Norman Carr Collection and is one of their 2 luxury camps – Chinzombo being the second. We like to use Mchenja after more rustic properties to add some pampering at the end of your safari.
The camp is situated 1.5 hours from Kapani and a short morning walk from sister camp Kakuli. Five gorgeous, spacious thatch and canvas tents are built under an ebony tree grove. They have Victorian bathtubs, outdoor showers, and gorgeous panoramic views over the Luangwa River. We love the rooms – private, romantic, airy and well-finished.
Game drives and walks are conducted through the mixed woodlands, plains, and around lagoons. The landscape attracts a variety of both predator and prey species which can be seen in large numbers.
Mchenja is ideal for a luxury walking experience, with more rustic alternatives being Luwi, Nsolo and Kakuli. It can be combined with other camps, Chinzombo in particular, to ensure a complete safari experience and superior game viewing. We think it’s a great choice especially for honeymooners who want a little bit of luxury in the South Luangwa.
