About Ally Ross, Guide, Sabi Sabi Bush Lodge

Ally’s passion for the African bush started at an early age with a love of wildlife and interest in conservation. Her path to becoming a guide though, started as a teacher in Johannesburg. She found the most joy in her students when they were engaging with the physical world around them; hands-on lessons always sparked more enthusiasm than sitting at a desk.

“As a safari guide, our job is naturally to educate our guests about what they’re seeing, why an animal is behaving in a particular way, and story-telling which brings the world around us to life. So, starting my career in a classroom only enhances my ability to connect with my audience on different levels.” Whether on game drives with adults or examining tracks with kids, the thrill of inspiring connections and continually learning herself is one of the aspects she finds the most rewarding as a guide.

A birding enthusiast, Ally obtained a regional birding qualification and has continued with other birding biomes across Southern Africa. Forever an educator at heart, Ally hopes to complete her assessors qualification and be more involved in training to help fellow guides reach their goals.
