Located in Pocitos, often called the quaintest neighborhood in Montevideo, Hotel Montevideo is an 80-room property that blends modern amenities with rich design. It’s a great option for travelers who want old-town charm without the quirks that sometimes come with historic hotels or for those who want a central beachy location without the hustle and bustle of downtown.  

Enter through the hotel’s red double doors and immediately catch hints of Wes Anderson in the lobby. Green velvet seating, a mural of palms, a timber-clad art deco check-in desk, and a dazzling art installation suspended from the ceiling are a visual snack. Bold design continues into the well-equipped (swanky, even!) fitness center, hallways, elevators, and in the hotel’s dining spaces.  

Head up to Skybar for sunset cocktails before dining at Polo Bamba, an all-day bistro. Stewarded by renowned chef duo Ale Morales and Florencia Courreges, the food is as sumptuous in its presentation as the restaurant’s eye-catching tilework.  

Dressed in creamy neutrals, Hotel Montevideo’s suites are more restrained in their design. Each is graced with a balcony, Carrara marble bathrooms, Italian bed linens, and floor-to-ceiling windows that flood the space with natural light and invite in gorgeous city views. Hand-selected furniture and accents in the upgraded suites feel more akin to a friend’s stylish apartment than a hotel.
