Alma Histórica Hotel

For a charming stay in Montevideo’s picturesque city center, Alma Histórica is situated on leafy Zabalá Square. Conveniently, the hotel is located within the Ciudad Vieja (historic district) and within walking distance of cafés, restaurants, and many points of interest.

Housed in a restored 1920s-era townhouse, Alma Histórica is no cookie-cutter hotel. There are just 15 rooms, and each is dedicated to influential Uruguayan artists, writers, athletes, and musicians. Curated décor and curio give each a unique look and feel, though Egyptian cotton bed linens and air conditioning are standard luxury; some suites feature terraces.

Communal areas at Alma Histórica include a handsome library. Pluck a book from the tall bookshelf and sink into the button-tufted leather sofa for a lazy lounge. A tall, curved, wrought-iron banister staircase is a focal point of the lobby. Breakfast is served on mismatched antique crockery, and guests are welcomed back for afternoon tea. End a day of sightseeing on the rooftop terrace with a glass of tannat wine, or perhaps take a relaxing dip in the hot tub.
