Tanzanian Coast

The Tanzanian Coast, is perfect for people who don’t want to venture to Zanzibar or Mozambique, but want to add a beach extension to their Tanzanian safari. The coast is only an hour’s drive south of Dar es Salaam, and a beautiful one at that. The coastal vegetation is lush with palm and papaya trees and is interspersed with small farming villages.

The beaches along the Tanzanian Coast are lovely and often far more secluded than those of Zanzibar. Zanzibar offers more activities, diving in particular, that the mainland coast does not, but the tradeoff is far fewer crowds. The Tanzanian Coast’s rainy season is April, May, and November. Otherwise, the weather and water are very pleasant. There are few properties on the coast, our favorite being Ras Kutani.

The Tanzanian coastline is 1 084 km long from the southern border with Mozambique to the north border with Kenya. The marine fishery is divided into Territorial waters, which extend up to 12 nm.

 

 

 

The best time to visit Tanzania is from July to October when the country is at its driest. This coincides with the migration river crossings, however, all the parks offer amazing wildlife sightings at this time as the grasses and bush are at their least dense. The Northern part of Tanzania has so much to offer that you could easily spend 7 days to 2 full weeks there. However, if you only have 10 days in Tanzania, and wish to squeeze Zanzibar into your itinerary, I suggest spending 7 days in safari and 3 days on the beach.
