Sossusvlei Desert Lodge
Sossuvlei Desert Lodge is perched on an escarpment overlooking the beautiful Namib Desert. The lodge boasts 10 stone and glass villas, each with a private veranda, split-level bedroom and living room, fireplace, and bathroom with an outdoor shower. The skylight in each villa and observatory with a professional astronomer means you can do some amazing stargazing under Africa’s first International Dark Sky Reserve. The main area of the lodge provides a pool, bar, restaurant, lounge, and curio shop. We like the little touches they provide, like art supplies for anyone who’s feeling creative. This camp is very luxurious and well-decorated. It strongly resembles a hotel rather than a bush camp with its excess of amenities (TV, hairdryers, air conditioning, multiple power outlets), making it excellent for someone who prefers the comforts of their own home rather than a close-to-nature bush experience. Unfortunately, while rooms are air-conditioned with glass doors, they lack screens so you cannot sleep with the door open.
Activities offered include quad biking, nature walks to the nearby bushmen cave drawings, hot air ballooning, visits to the dunes and Deadvlei, and game drives. If you want adventure during the day, luxury in the evening, and price is no obstacle, then this lodge is perfect.
