Chongwe River Camp
Set on the banks of the Chongwe River, just outside the Lower Zambezi National Park, Chongwe River Camp is a popular choice because of its exceptional game, comfort, and service.
Chongwe service is friendly and efficient and a wide variety of activities such as game drives, motor boating, canoeing, and walks are offered. The river views are spectacular and an abundance of game in the area ensures regular sightings of crocs, hippos, turtles, baboons, monitor lizards and many bird species.
Rooms are traditional raised tents with views and open–air bathrooms. However, the camp doesn’t feel as secluded and intimate as something like Sausage Tree; you are conscious of other people and the activities going on around you. The standard tents seemed a little tired and a little small when we last visited mid-2013. We prefer the elegant suites with their own private pools and lounges, especially for families. We are hesitant about the Cassia Honeymoon suite. It is very large and quite beautiful, but we were bothered by the sound of the boats driving up and down the river.
Chongwe River Camp, open from April to mid-November, is a short transfer from the Royal Airstrip and in terms of price, offers great value for money.
