Somalisa Camp
Somalisa Camp is an authentic, classic bush camp in Hwange National Park in the Kennedy Vlei. The seven beautiful tents flawlessly blend understated elegance with African influences. Each tent has an en-suite bathroom with indoor and outdoor showers, copper slipper-style bathtub and flush toilets. The main area with its lounge, dining area, and wooden deck with fire pit and plunge pool all look out onto the plains. During the dry months from April to October, it’s not unlikely to see herds of up to 40 elephants roaming the camp and drinking from the pool, sometimes while you’re swimming in it, which we love (though their trunks don’t get quite as close to you as they can at the neighboring Somalisa Acacia)! Because of the free-roaming elephants, we don’t love this camp for families with young children, but it’s perfect for couples or friends traveling together. The staff here is friendly and attentive, and the food is excellent.
Somalisa Camp and its sister camp, Somalisa Acacia, emphasize great wildlife experiences. Their expert guides take you on game drives and bush walks in Hwange National Park or on their private concession. Or you can simply view the resident elephants from your room! The one downside to its location is that Hwange can get VERY cold in their winter months, particularly at night, so you’ll need to dress accordingly. Overall, we love Somalisa Camp and would send guests here in a heartbeat.
