Chobe Game Lodge, the only lodge within Chobe National Park, is a classic older safari lodge. It is situated in one of the best possible locations along the Chobe River, deep in elephant territory. It has the advantage of being inside the park which gives you a head start over crowds entering through the main park gate in the morning.

Despite its large size, Chobe Game Lodge consistently get good reviews from their clients. The lodge’s beautiful terrace and pool offer superb views over the river, and the rooms have AC.

Sunset cruises are a fun activitity and spending an afternoon on the deck with a drink in hand watching animals come down to the water is highly recommended. We love the all female-guide team (a rarity in Africa) but are less thrilled by the game-viewing vehicles which carry more people than we would like.

The park is very busy (particularly during August), which can be unpleasant, but weather and game viewing is good throughout the year. Chobe Game Lodge is great for a night or two to take in the enormous elephant herds and is ideal for groups and guests with limited mobility.

Fun Fact: Chobe Game Lodge is where Richard Burton proposed to Elizabeth Taylor the second time, presenting her with an extraordinary diamond ring.
