Borneo
Depart the next morning for the island of Kalimantan—Indonesian Borneo. You’ll be taken to Kumai, your private-chartered klotok riverboat, for your journey up the backwater channels of Tanjung Puting National Park. Assured orangutan sightings take place during visits to rehabilitation centers and at Camp Leakey (where senior orangutans are reintroduced to the wild). Otherwise, keep eyes fixed to the sublime rainforest that skirts the Sekonyer. On terra firma, set off on guided walks through forest that shelters civets, Malaysian sun bears, deer, banteng (wild cattle), and elusive clouded leopards.
4
Magelang
Depart Borneo, flying to Semarang in central Java. A private guide will drive you to Magelang (about 2.5 hours), a city cradled between mountains. Check into the dreamy Amanjiwo for three blissful nights. This afternoon, enjoy a talk with the resort’s resident anthropologist, who will provide a fascinating introduction to Borobudur Temple. You’ll gain deeper insight into its extraordinary architecture and enduring cultural heritage, the perfect preparation for your visit tomorrow morning.
5
Magelang
Rise early for a sunrise visit to Borobudur, the world’s largest Buddhist monument, with special private access that allows you to reach the temple before the general public. Watch dawn spill over volcanoes and misty valleys from the upper terraces as your guide shares the temple’s history. Return to Amanjiwo for breakfast, then enjoy a cycling tour through nearby villages, meeting locals as you go. End the day with an intimate dinner at the home of Pak Bilal, who has graciously opened his doors to our guests for an enchanting experience of Javanese rural life and cuisine.
6
Magelang
Spending the morning discovering the art of jemparingan, a refined Javanese archery tradition dating back the time of Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono I. Jemparingan was reserved as a weapon of the distinguished Bregodo Nyutro, an elite and formidable force dedicated to the sacred duty of safeguarding the Sultan’s esteemed lineage. In the afternoon, set out on a 2- to 3-hour hike into the Menoreh Hills and enjoy sweeping views over the Kedu Plain and Borobudur.
7
Ubud
In the morning, drive to Prambanan Temple, Indonesia’s largest Hindu temple. This dizzying complex of spired temples and intricate reliefs is a testament to spiritual devotion and craftsmanship. Your expert guide will bring history to life, narrating the epic tale of Ramayana, and explaining Prambanan’s dedication to Shiva, Vishnu, and Brahma. Then bid farewell to Java and board a flight to Denpasar, Bali. A private driver transfers you to your pool villa at Mandapa.

Ubud
An idyllic island that emanates barefoot boho vibes, Bali attracted surfers, creatives, and mavericks decades before Insta-travelers and digital nomads. A sanctuary for influential artists like Walter Spies, Miguel Covarrubias, and later Antonio Blanco and Arie Smit, Ubud affirmed itself as the island’s artsy epicenter. Today, you’ll accompany a Balinese artist who will bring you into the studios of makers and master artists on a behind-the-scenes tour. Meet the artists by name, learn what influences them, and explore their creative processes.
9
Ubud
The next day, immerse yourself in the spiritual heart of Bali, an island that practices Hinduism. Your private guide will bring you to a Griya (priest housing) in east Bali to receive a blessing from a revered pedanda priest. Your afternoon is at leisure but be sure to reserve an appetite. This evening, we’ve secured you a coveted reservation at Syrco BASÈ, the esteemed dining room of the two Michelin-starred chef, Syrco Bakker.

Enjoy a private musical workshop with Gus Teja, Bali’s celebrated flute maestro. Begin with a warm welcome and fresh coconut water, then learn to craft a bamboo flute under his guidance. End the experience with a private mini-concert by Gus Teja (a rare chance to hear his music up close) and take your handcrafted flute home for a meaningful keepsake. Spend the afternoon relaxing back at Mandapa.

Stop at Kelor Island to snorkel its gin-clear shallows and then arrive at Rinca Island for your first meeting with Komodo dragons. Drop anchor at Kalong Island and sip a sunset cocktail as a sweep of bats depart their mangrove nests for the evening.

The Oracle
Set off for Padar Island today while enjoying breakfast at sea. Depart the Oracle to hike to a scenic viewpoint that looks upon a trio of crescent beaches. Return to the boat for lunch while cruising to Pink Beach. Once there, don a mask for some marine-rich snorkeling or simply lay out on rose-tinted sands.

The Oracle
Point your compass to Manta Point for a snorkeling encounter with regal rays and other colorful marine life. Afterward, cruise to Gili Lawa Island, an uninhabited and tranquil island in northern Komodo National Park. Gentle hiking leads to stunning vistas overlooking crescent sand beaches and technicolor ocean blues.

Tabanan
On your final day at sea, you can either sleep in or take a breathtaking sunrise trek to the summit of Gili Lawa Darat. Enjoy breakfast on board the Oracle, then make your return to land and transfer to Labuan Bajo Airport for a short flight back to Bali. Your driver will take to you to Tabanan for the final stop of your trip: Soori Bali, a quiet refuge on the edge of the ocean.
