2

Borobudur

Day 2: Journey to Java

Arrive at Yogyakarta International Airport on Central Java, gateway to mystical Borobudur. After meeting your guide, you’ll be driven to Plataran Borobudur where you’ll stay two nights in an exclusive villa with a private swimming pool.

3

Borobudur

Day 3: Sunrise at Borobudur

Depart in the early morning for the awe-inspiring Borobudur Temple, the world’s largest Buddhist monument and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The sacred stone site predates Angkor Wat, and the stone reliefs offer a gateway to Buddhist philosophy and the lives of ancient Javanese civilization. Led by your expert guide, you’ll follow a private route that allows you to reach the temple before the general public. Later, enjoy a cycling tour on quiet country roads through rice paddies and villages.

4

Yogyakarta

Day 4: Temples and Street Food

Bid farewell to Borobudur and head to the towering Prambanan Temple (Indonesia’s largest Hindu complex). It’s soaring shrines rise up to 47 meters high and are surrounded by more than 220 smaller temples. In the evening, set out on foot or via becak (pedicab) to savor a parade of local food and beverage in central Yogyakarta. Mi Kadin (stir-fried noodles), gudeg (jackfruit curry), wedang uwuh (herbal drink), and angkringan dining are all on the menu.

5

Yogyakarta

Day 5: Cultural Exploration

Yogyakarta is the heart of Javanese culture and on your second day, you’ll explore the city alongside an expert who will open hidden doors with their concierge key. Board a becak to call on Kraton Palace and Taman Sari water palace, former haunts of city sultans. Get a dose of the arts watching wayang kulit (shadow puppets). Afterward, head into an old quarter neighborhood for a batik workshop (create your own souvenir) and for a hands-on gamelan music class.

6

It’s an Indiana Jones-style adventure that culminates with a Balinese lunch back at base camp.

9

Pemuteran

Day 9: Northern Bali Escape

Depart Munduk for Bali’s far northwest coast. On the way, visit Brahma Ashrama Vihara, a Buddhist Monastery (one of few on Hindu-practicing Bali) sometimes called “small Borobudur.” Arrive in laid-back Pemuteran in the afternoon, far from the Kuta and Ubud crowds. Check into a dreamy oceanfront pool villa at Plataran Menjangan for two sublime nights. The rest of the day is at your leisure.

Keep watch for monkeys, monitor lizards, junglefowl, and tropical birds before concluding in the mangrove forests, exploring their vital role in protecting shorelines and supporting marine life.

12

Pekutatan

Day 12: Journey to the Coast
