Jinja is the adventure capital of Uganda. Located on the shores of Lake Victoria near the source of the Nile, the area has a lot to offer visitors in the way of adventure sports and activities.

Just 45 minutes from Jinja is Lemala Wildwaters Lodge, one of our favorite escapes in Africa. Nestled on an island between the thundering rapids of the mighty Nile River, the lodge offers access to all of the activities to make your time as active or relaxed as you’d like. Lemala Wildwaters is a 3-hour transfer by road from Entebbe, followed by a short boat ride to the lodge. If your bones are road wary, consider a short helicopter or charter flight from Entebbe.

Lemala Wildwaters Lodge (our favorite stay in this area) is breathtaking, nestled in the rainforest on its own private island on the mighty Nile. Relax here, cooled by the constant breezes from the racing rapids, or plunge into the adjacent natural swimming pool, carved by the river over millennia from pink granite.
