Okavango Delta

The Okavango Delta, a natural wonder and UNESCO World Heritage Site, is the world’s only inland delta. It was created by a tectonic shift that cut off the Cubango River on its long passage through Botswana. As the annual flood waters spread southward from Angola, they fill the Okavango Delta with pools and lagoons and twisting waterways, creating islands that shelter a myriad of wildlife species. As the flood waters recede months later, they leave behind nutrient rich soil that revitalize the land.

The Delta’s changing landscape of islands, channels and floodplains beckons visitors year-round and offer more of land or water-focused experience depending on the time of year and the location of the camp. The aerial view of the Delta as you fly into your camp is often a highlight for guests. The Delta draws a huge variety of wildlife and you are likely to encounter leopard, lion, elephant, buffalo, hyena, wild dog, hippo, zebra, wildebeest, giraffe, civet, serval, tsessebe, roan, sable, kudu, impala, sitatunga, and many more.

We always recommend staying at two or three properties within the Okavango, or combining it with the Linyanti area to get the full range of land and water-based activities that are so unique to the region.
