A Ngorongoro Crater safari can be experienced year-round, though crowds and climate may influence when you plan to visit.

With limited entry points and roadways within the Crater, crowding can be extreme during the peak season months of June through October. Paying a premium rate to experience long queues can erode the magic of the Crater, so we recommend visiting during the shoulder season.

Given the unpredictability of weather, we hesitate to uniformly advise against entire months. What’s certain is that rain causes dirt roads in the crater to become slippery, increasing the odds of getting stuck when driving uphill. Precipitation is typical of mid-March and April, but it depends on the year. That said, a secret season safari has many perks.
