Why visit Kruger National Park?

  • 1

Kruger National Park is South Africa’s flagship safari destination. A leopard stronghold, it’s one of the best places to spot these elegant cats. With healthy wildlife populations and so many mixed species, every game drive in Kruger has thrilling potential.

Every trip with Extraordinary Journeys is tailor-made, crafted in direct collaboration with one of our destination specialists.

    Exclusive experiences

Kruger National Park is open to the visiting public, even permitting self-driving day-trippers on game drives that follow paved roads. To experience the safari you imagine, we almost always recommend staying in one of the private game reserves situated adjacent to Kruger. Unencumbered by a fence, you’ll experience the same Kruger wildlife and yet you’ll only share game drives with guests from the limited number of lodges located within each respective reserve. The exclusivity and crowd-free wilderness of a private game reserve offer the best Kruger safari experience.

    Memorable accommodations

Greater Kruger is home to some of the top safari lodges in South Africa. Once we’ve gotten to know you better, your Extraordinary Journeys safari expert will narrow down the lodging options to curate a selection that aligns with the “why” behind your trip, style, budget, and availability. Some of our favorite Kruger safari lodges include Singita Boulders, Lion Sands Ivory Lodge, and Cheetah Plains.

    Expert guides

Your guide will play a starring role on your safari. You’ll be amazed by their depth of naturalist knowledge, from wildlife to plants to birdlife. In your guide’s care, you’ll feel safe, well taken care of, and entertained. Because a guide can make or break your experience, we only work with the most reputable lodges.

The best time to visit Kruger National Park

You can enjoy a safari year-round, but conventional wisdom says the best time to go on a Kruger National Park safari is the dry season. In May, June, July, August, and September, grasses are lower and thinner, trampled bushveld offer better visibility for wildlife spotting, and wildlife tends to congregate at reliable water sources.

By contrast, a secret season safari features a revived, lush landscape (very photogenic), newborn animals, less vehicle pressure, and fewer guests at your lodge.
