Family Trip to Peru

1

Lima

Day 1: Arrival

Land in Lima, Peru’s culture-filled capital city on the Pacific Ocean and the springboard for your family trip to Peru. Your private driver ferries your family to Fausto by Andean, a dreamy 1920s townhouse-turned-boutique hotel set near the coast. Take the afternoon to catch up on rest or take the family for a refreshing walk through waterfront parks. Come dinnertime, Lima's globetrotting food scene offers something for all tastes and even picky eaters.

Day 2: City Exploration

Your first full day begins with your private guide leading you on a scenic bike ride along the Malecón de Miraflores oceanfront promenade. With spirits high, it’s off to the Huaca Pucllana, a pre-Incan pyramid where grown-ups can immerse themselves in history while children meet llamas and alpacas. Later, discover Barranco’s colorful streets, guided by a local expert who shares its bohemian charm.

3

Sacred Valley

Day 3: Sacred Valley Ruins

Depart for the Andes on a morning flight to the ancient Incan capital of Cusco, where your guide awaits to whisk you off to the Sacred Valley. Stops at historic sites like the Sacsayhuaman ruins to break up the two-hour drive along winding mountain roads, watching plunging valleys glide by below. Overnight in the shadow of misty peaks at Inkaterra Hacienda Urubamba, where spaced-out casitas provide privacy and “earth-to-table" feasts refuel the whole family.

Day 4: ATV Adventure

Turn a standard day of sightseeing into a thrilling outing by touring some of the Sacred Valley’s most famous sites on an ATV tour. After a safety briefing and orientation, head off over bumpy valley roads to the tiered terraces of Moray and the patchwork salt ponds of Maras. Pause for a picnic lunch before returning to the hotel for a laidback afternoon poolside, basking in the hotel’s sweeping valley vistas.

Day 5: Urubamba River Rafting

Descend to the depths of the valley to see it from a new perspective: the wild waters of the Urubamba River. Navigating the Ollantaytambo section, the ride intersperses bouts of white water rafting over gleefully fun but low-risk rapids with flat, floating stretches, where looking skyward reveals soaring peaks. Famished after hours of splashing about, a riverside lunch is just the thing to rejuvenate your family before returning to the lodge to rest and repose; tomorrow is a big day.

6

Machu Picchu

Day 6: Machu Picchu Tour

Travel to the foot of Machu Picchu in grand style aboard the Hiram Bingham, a luxurious heritage train. Arriving in the gateway town of Aguas Calientes satiated after an onboard brunch, it's time to head up to the clouds to Machu Picchu. Your private guide reveals the mysteries of this awe-inspiring site as you wander its terraces and temples. That evening, retreat to Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo, a lush sanctuary of stone paths and flowering gardens.

Machu Picchu

Day 7: Morning Hike

Rise with the sun to see Machu Picchu anew, giving you another chance to fully experience the citadel. Roam the blissfully empty avenues and squares, watch as the sunrise and shifting weather transforms the views, and soak up this priceless moment together as a family. A ride in a glass-roofed train and a scenic drive later, you’re back in Cusco and checked in at the stately Inkaterra La Casona

8

Cusco

Day 8: Cusco City Tour

Explore Cusco at your own rhythm with a private guide who tailors the day to your family’s interests. Wander hidden alleyways, visit artisan workshops to watch age-old techniques, and meet llamas in the lively main square. Take breaks as needed—the day flows entirely at your pace—and end with dinner at one of our favorite local gems.

9

Amazon Rainforest

Day 9: Amazon Arrival

Arriving by plane to the town of Puerto Maldonado, the gateway to the southern Amazon, you board a boat that whisks you past foliage-choked banks into the heart of the private Tambopata National Reserve. Drop your bags in your breezy cabana at the remote Inkaterra Reserva Amazónica before heading right back for an all-ages hike under the forest canopy. Come nightfall, turn wildlife-finding into a family game as you float along the river in search of native species.
