Valparaíso Travel

Also known as the “Jewel of the Pacific”, Valparaíso is bohemian and colorful and has long inspired poets and writers.

Pablo Nerudo may have said it best “Valparaíso, how absurd you are…you haven’t combed your hair, you’ve never had time to get dressed, life has always surprised you.” A few days spent here can easily have you lost strolling the narrow streets, riding its historic funicular elevators, or admiring the local art scene. This World Heritage City is definitely worth the added time on your visit to Chile.

Colorful hillside neighborhoods of Valparaíso cascade down to the bay under a partly cloudy sky.

Why visit Valparaiso?

  • 1

Valparaíso is built across more than 40 colorful hills (cerros), each with its own personality. The winding streets are an open-air gallery of world-class murals and graffiti, making every walk feel like a tour through a living museum.

  • The best time to visit Valparaiso

January and February are the hottest months of the year and the locals flock to the beaches for holiday travel.

To avoid the crowds, we suggest visiting in November and March.
