Today, head into the desert hills to the Valley of the Kings, the final resting place of Egypt’s legendary kings and queens. There are few places in the world imbued with such an ancient, sacred sense of mystery. Visit Tutankhamen’s tomb, the Temple of Hatshepsut, a rare monument to a female ruler, and stand before the towering Colossi of Memnon. Return to the boat for lunch and sail south toward Esna.

Then it’s on to Kom Ombo, a unique double temple dedicated to Sobek, the crocodile god, and Horus, the falcon god. Don’t miss the nearby Crocodile Museum, home to mummified crocodiles.
