Why visit the Bazaruto Archipelago?

Benguerra Island offers some of the most luxurious accommodation in the Bazaruto area, including Benguerra Island Lodge and Azura Benguerra. Kisawa Sanctuary is idyllic, too.

If you’d like to skip the helicopter transfer to Benguerra Island, there are fantastic (and nice cost saving) options on the mainland near Vilankulos. Our favorite is Santorini. From here, you can enjoy the beach or take day trips out to Magaruque and/or Benguerra Island for snorkeling adventures.

If you visit between August and October, you may be able to spy migrating humpback whales in the area.

The best time to visit the Bazaruto Archipelago

Although you can visit Bazaruto year-round, January through March can be hot and rainy, and July, Christmas, and Easter can be crowded with South African holiday-goers. August through October is the best time to go, particularly for those who hope to see migrating humpback whales.
