Congo Jungle Safari: Exploring the Rainforests

Are you ready for a conservation adventure in Africa’s Congo Basin? Our Congo Jungle safari takes you deep into the rainforest in the Republic of Congo to see the incredible forest wildlife and learn about and contribute to the conservation work being done to preserve the Congo Basin. Its forests are second in size only to the Amazon and contain the greatest number of mammals, primates, birds, amphibians, fish and swallowtail butterflies in Africa.

Congo Jungle Safari: 8 days / 9 nights

On this special safari, you will discover a part of Africa in an adventurous and pioneering way. Your first stop will be at Ngaga Camp - a gorilla research camp. 38 western lowland gorilla groups are within walking distance of the camp, with 2 of them habituated to humans. The local researchers will share their knowledge in advance of tracking activities, outlining the experiences you can expect and discussing the differences between the western lowland gorillas and the mountain gorillas of Rwanda, Uganda and Democratic Republic of Congo. Days will be filled with gorilla trekking, forest walks and birdwatching, and optional night walks are available as well.

Next up is your transfer to Lango Camp, which is a light adventure in itself, as you will go via road through a local village and then by kayak. Built on a marshy bai that attracts huge flocks of African green pigeons and African grey parrots, as well as herds of forest buffalo by day and forest elephants by night, the camp is a wonderful place to soak up the magic of the forest. You will take walks through the bai to learn about the forest and the local wildlife, as well as enjoy wildlife viewing from camp.

Your final stop is at Mboko Camp, situated on the banks of a free-flowing tributary of the Lekoli River. This is where savannah and tropical rainforest meet. You might see forest buffalo, forest elephant and spotted hyena, along with smaller species. Flowers and butterflies (depending on the season) can be seen in profusion. Here, you will cruise the river’s waters by boat, or even take a swim, as well as enjoy more exploration through the incredible rainforest.
