Highlights

  • Stand inside the Panama Canal's restricted lock chambers with a specialist guide for privileged access close enough to feel the mechanics as a ship the size of an entire city block eases through.

  • Three full days on a private Pacific archipelago so wild and exclusive it welcomes more whales than guests. Play castaway, stargaze, snorkel coral gardens, picnic on the sand, and swim with whale sharks.

  • Take your seat for a chef-guided tasting tour of Panama's regions across 10 courses. Each dish is a creative reinterpretation of ancestral flavors that honors native ingredients and centuries of culinary tradition.

  • An unexpected detour to a town cradled within an extinct volcano where the air turns permanently cool. Zipline the crater rim, hike lush forest trails, and swim in pools fed by waterfalls.

Romantic Panama trip

1

Panama City

Day 1: Welcome to Panama

Touch down in Panama City where a personal representative meets you just steps off the plane, fast-tracking you through arrivals. A private transfer brings you to Hotel La Compañía Casco Antiguo in the city’s UNESCO-designated old quarter. Here, cobbled streets meet colonial facades and the best bars in the country hide behind centuries-old doors. Settle in, then head to the rooftop bar where golden hour light completes the welcome.

Day 2: Panama Canal private tour

Today provides crucial context for understanding Panama. At Fort San Lorenzo, your guide shares history that grips like a novel. Think, looted treasure defended at sword point. Pass the Colón Free Zone on return — the modern expression of the same geographic logic that made San Lorenzo worth defending. This afternoon, a specialist guide takes you inside the Panama Canal’s Miraflores Locks for VIP access to areas otherwise closed to the public.

Day 3: Panama City food tour

The morning is yours. Sleep in, then linger over coffee at your historic hotel, beneath elaborate ceilings that Jesuit priests first raised in 1739. This afternoon, a walking food tour threads through Casco Antiguo's most compelling flavors (Geisha coffee, single-origin chocolate, raspao (shaved ice)) before evening delivers the city's most ambitious table: the A to Z Experience, a chef's tasting menu that puts Panama's diverse culinary identities onto 10 plates.

4

El Valle de Antón

Day 4: Into the crater

After breakfast, a private transfer carries you two and a half hours west to El Valle de Antón, a small mountain town cradled inside the walls of an ancient volcanic caldera. The heat of the city falls away as misty cloud forest drapes across the crater walls and the air turns cool. Check into Hotel La Compañía del Valle and surrender the afternoon to volcano views and an extensive art collection not limited to gallery walls.

5

El Valle de Antón

Day 5: Cloud forest waterfall hike

This morning, set off with a naturalist guide for a two-mile cloud forest hike. Stone steps, hanging bridges, and a canopy alive with toucans, monkeys, and the occasional sloth. With luck, spot a technicolor motmot, a species that inspires people to become birders. The trail builds toward Chorro El Macho, a 115-foot waterfall with a cool natural pool at its base, worth every bit of the walk. Your afternoon is at leisure.

El Valle de Antón

Day 6: Restorative spa day

Today belongs entirely to the two of you. At Elysium Spa and Wellness House, a full thermal circuit awaits: Roman baths, aromatic steam room, dry sauna, hot tub, mud Rasul, Himalayan salt room, cold plunge, and a sensory deprivation float tank that manages to feel both indulgent and quietly revelatory. Post-circuit, lounge poolside in the secret garden overlooking the valley. An unhurried dinner closes out your romantic stay in El Valle de Anton.

7

Gulf of Chiriquí

Day 7: Pacific coast luxury hideaway

Return to Panama City by road, then board a private flight. You're lifted above the capital, banking west along the Pacific coast. The Gulf of Chiriquí arrives in gradations of blue before a jungle-covered archipelago comes into view. Thirteen are completely untouched; the fourteenth is yours. Check into your Isla Seca thatch casita, replete with romantic hallmarks: a plunge pool, cabana, and louvered walls that open entirely. Later, meet with your adventure concierge to personalize your time here.

Gulf of Chiriquí

Day 8: “Blue five” marine safari

Board a catamaran and drift into Gulf of Chiriquí National Marine Park. Teeming with biodiversity, it’s also one of the least explored marine ecosystems in the Pacific. In season, humpback whales from both northern and southern hemisphere populations meet, and 750 fish species take sanctuary. Your captain will design the day around what the ocean is offering: snorkeling a reef, swimming with whale sharks, or watching manta rays congregate off Cocos island.

Day 9: Snorkel, picnic, relax

Greet the day nosing a kayak along quiet coves in the soft morning light. After breakfast, don a mask and fins to snorkel coral gardens where parrotfish and turtles parade by. Optional add-on: Arrive at Pargo Island to find a beach barbecue for two arrayed on a secluded stretch of sand. This afternoon, learn to make ceviche or soak in your casita’s outdoor bathtub. Dinner is seafood pulled fresh from the ocean and steamed in banana leaves.

Day 10: Choose your castaway adventure

This morning, look inland. Follow your in-house naturalist along forest trails that double as a classroom where frigate monitoring makes you a citizen scientist all before lunch. Later, a massage using island-sourced botanicals is yours to claim. Add-on: go deep sea fishing for marlin, tuna, and snapper off the world-famous Hannibal Bank; or dive to see white-tipped reef sharks patrolling the seamounts. Your final evening belongs to a golden sunset cruise that casts the archipelago's palms in silhouette — a send-off worthy of everything that came before it.

Gulf of Chiriquí

Day 11: Journey’s end

Take your final made-to-order breakfast beneath Terraza's cathedral-pitched thatched roof, framed by long-legged palms and the sea. When it's time, board the small plane for a return trip to Panama City. A VIP meet-and-greet expedites you through the international terminal without lines or heavy lifting. Board your flight home with memories that belong only to the two of you: rooftop cocktails staged against towering cathedral spires at twilight, the motmot in the mist, and the island casita with the standalone tub on the terrace.
