What is the best time to visit Republic of the Congo?
Located just north of the equator, Odzala’s climate remains fairly consistent year-round: hot and humid. The year alternates between two dry and two rainy seasons.
The dry periods, from November to February and June to August, are generally cooler and less humid, making them our preferred travel windows. That said, rainfall can still occur and conditions remain variable even during the drier months.
The rainy seasons, from March to May and September to October, bring higher humidity and warmer temperatures. Tropical downpours are often balanced by stretches of bright blue skies, creating dramatic light and exceptional conditions for photographers.

Where to go in the Republic of the Congo
Pair the wild, gorilla-rich forests of Odzala with the vibrant riverfront energy and culture of Brazzaville
Odzala-Kokoua National Park
Odzala-Kokoua National Park (often referred to simply as Odzala) spans 3.36 million acres in northwestern Congo. Remote and firmly off the tourist radar, it is one of Africa’s oldest protected areas and critical habitat for western lowland gorillas and African forest elephants. Ongoing research and conservation efforts are essential here, supporting species that have faced years of poaching and habitat loss. We’re drawn to Odzala not only for its extraordinary wildlife and true off-the-grid adventure, but also for the conservation-driven camps we partner with—each deeply committed to sustainable tourism and responsible gorilla trekking.
