Matobo Hills National Park
Matobo Hills National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most beautiful and interesting landscapes in Zimbabwe. These massive gravity-defying granite outcrops have been shaped by the elements into an intriguing “balancing rock” landscape. With more than 2,000 sites of San (Bushman) rock art, Matobo Hills is an area of great spiritual, cultural, and historical significance.
While Matobo Hills is not a classic Big 5 safari destination, it is home to a wide variety of animal species including a variety of antelope, zebra, wildebeest, giraffe, hyena, hippo, warthog, rock dassie’s, wildcat, springhare, crocodiles, baboons and monkeys. The park is well known for its large concentration of black eagles, a high density of leopard, and its successful rhino breeding program.
Beyond game drives, travelers can take part in rhino walks, mountain biking, hiking and fishing in addition to exploring the many caves decorated with Bushmen art.
