The Bazaruto Archipelago is a chain of islands in Southern Mozambique and a great destination for snorkeling, diving, fishing, and relaxing on the beach. The remote beaches and beautiful seas are perfect for a relaxing beach addition to your safari.

The Bazaruto Archipelago is accessed through the mainland town of Vilanculous. There are direct flights between both Johannesburg and Kruger into Vilanculous making the Bazaruto Archipelago some of the most accessible tropical beaches and high-quality diving to combine with a safari in Southern Africa.

If you’d like to skip the helicopter transfer to Benguerra Island, there are fantastic (and nice cost saving) options on the mainland near Vilanculous. Our favorite is Santorini. From here, you can enjoy the beach or take day trips out to Magaruque and/or Benguerra Island for snorkeling adventures.

Benguerra Island offers some of the most luxurious accommodation in the Bazaruto area including Benguerra Island Lodge and Azura Benguerra

Although you can visit Bazaruto year-round, January through March can be hot and rainy, and July, Christmas, and Easter can be crowded with South African holiday-goers. August through October is the best time to go, particularly for those who hope to see migrating humpback whales.
