Marataba Safari Lodge

Marataba Safari Lodge, is ideally located in the magnificent malaria-free foothills of South Africa’s Waterberg region, just four hours from Johannesburg. The Marataba Reserve is spectacularly beautiful with abundant wildlife and activities. Large game such as elephant and rhino as well as big cats and a variety of birds (including the largest colony of endangered Cape vultures in the world, with more than 800 breeding pairs) have settled here. Choose from traditional morning and evening game drives or “Miss Mara” water safaris, where you will see birdlife, hippos and more. Other activities include: bush walks, bush breakfasts and dinners, boma dinners and children’s activities.

Children over the age of 6 are welcome, and childcare is available. There are 15 canvas- and-stone Tented Suites, which can be converted to accommodate families. The rooms are contemporarily furnished; however the base materials are in keeping with the natural environment. The luxury of the lodge combined with the location and fantastic wildlife viewing make Marataba a year-round safari destination. The variation in experience is temperature-related rather than safari-related (there are no migratory species). The best bird-watching period is from October to April.
