One trip, three incredible Kenyan landscapes

Kenya is justifiably famous for its diverse ecosystems, and this itinerary visits three very different yet dramatic regions. Visit the forests of Meru National Park to the east; the plains, hills, and mountains of the Laikipia Plateau to the north; and the seemingly endless savanna of the Maasai Mara to the south.

On game drives through these distinct landscapes, you’ll encounter an extraordinary range of wildlife. The traditional Big Five (lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhino) are common, as are hundreds of adapted bird species only found north of the Equator. In Loisaba Conservancy (Laikipia), you'll spy some of the Northern Five, too—such as Grevy's zebra.

All but one of the tented camps included in this luxury Kenya itinerary are set in private conservancies. This means you're permitted to go on bush walks and night game drives, and drive off-road. Don't miss the chance to enjoy a unique safari experience such as a camel trek, horse safari, a local village visit, or a star bed sleep-out.

Kenya's Iconic Landscapes and Wildlife trip highlights

  • This 9-day fly-in safari begins in Meru National Park where you’ll stay at Elsa’s Kopje, made famous by Joy Adamson’s book Born Free. Go on guided walks, night drives, visit the local Tharaka community, and tour a rhino sanctuary in the heart of the park.
  • Fly to Loisaba Tented Camp in Loisaba Conservancy for game drives, camel treks, mountain biking, and horseback riding. On game drives, watch out for unique northern species such as Grévy's zebra, Beisa oryx, and Somali ostrich.
  • Spend an unforgettable night in a "star bed" where a team of Samburu and Maasai warriors will be your hosts. You’ll fall asleep to the sounds of the wilderness all around you.
  • Fly to Elephant Pepper Camp in the remote Mara North Conservancy, a private wilderness area spanning nearly 75,000 acres. If you’re here during the Great Migration, you can take a day trip to the river for a chance to witness a dramatic crossing.
