Travel consciously through Argentina’s diverse landscapes

This 13-day itinerary highlights some of the most sustainable and eco-conscious properties in Argentina. International and domestic flights carry the great majority of carbon emissions for any traveler, which is why Extraordinary Journeys offsets all emissions from our clients’ flights. Take things a step further by selecting properties and experiences in Argentina that emphasize sustainability and community efforts, without sacrificing comfort and beauty.

This journey takes you through the vibrant streets of Buenos Aires, the mesmerizing Salinas Grandes salt flats, the vineyards of Mendoza, and the tranquility of Northern Patagonia.

In choosing sustainable options, you minimize your environmental impact while enjoying the best that Argentina has to offer. Read more about each hotel's sustainability efforts under Trip Highlights below.

Sustainable Argentina trip highlights

  • Begin your luxury Argentina adventure in Buenos Aires, a city brimming with history and culture. Stay at Palo Santo Hotel, a sustainable oasis in the middle of the urban jungle. The hotel employs renewable energy and green architecture, while promoting waste reduction. The plants that adorn the walls, balconies, and patios of Palo Santo serve as natural insulation. Embark on a walking food tour to savor the culinary delights of Buenos Aires, tasting traditional Porteño dishes from local vendors.
  • Fly to Salta in northwest Argentina, where you'll spend a night at House of Jasmines. Here, food is sourced from the on-site organic garden and farms within a 25-mile radius of the hotel. Guest rooms are plastic-free, and a robust composting and recycling system is utilized to reduce waste. During your stay, enjoy a horseback ride on the pampas with a gaucho as your guide.
  • Venture to the mesmerizing salt flats, where you'll spend three nights at Pristine Salinas Grandes; a luxury glamping complex in the heart of the flats, surrounded by endless white. Explore the otherworldly landscapes of this desert region, and marvel at the clear night sky for some of the best stargazing in the world. The camp runs an alliance with the Aguas Blancas community, which is fully integrated into the operation of the property. The guest domes and common areas are all built on raised platforms, leaving no impact on the salt flats or the soil below. Further, Pristine Camps is powered by solar energy and boasts the largest solar energy plant of any hotel in the country.
  • Next, fly to Mendoza and transfer to Casa de Uco in the picturesque Uco Valley. The hotel minimizes environmental impact by using water conservation techniques, solar energy, and locally grown cuisine. Materials from the hotel, such as glass and cork, are donated to nearby communities that use them in arts programs. Complement your wine tastings (which are all but obligatory in Mendoza) with eco-friendly excursions like bike rides through vineyards, treks in the Andes, and a wine harvesting workshop.
  • Finally, finish your adventure in northern Patagonia, known as the Lake District. With Hosteria Las Balsas as your luxurious base, you’ll sail, kayak, bird watch, and hike your way through emerald lakes and rolling mountains. As a certified B-Corp, Las Balsas has sustainability in its DNA. The hotel is carbon neutral and uses 100% biodegradable cleaning products and amenities. Their on-site nature reserve is a member of the long-standing naturalist organization “Red de Reservas Naturales,” or Network of Nature Reserves. Finally, they support the community by sourcing food, art, and materials from the area, and by going above and beyond to make their hotel a great place to work.
