Omo Valley

Home to the Mursi and Hamar people, just two of the area’s best-known communities, the Omo Valley is a virtually unexplored frontier for travelers, and unlike any other place on Earth. With an outstanding number of indigenous tribes in a relatively small area, the Omo Valley is packed with tradition, fortified hilltop settlements, terraced fields and anthropomorphic grave-markers. Intrepid travelers will also find the Shappe Rock Engravings, thought to be more than 5,000 years old.

Accommodations in the Omo Valley are basic at best and one should not be expecting any more than a private, comfortable tent. The main focus here is the culture and experience with the tribes, much more than accommodations.
