Mahe

Known for its stunning views, beautiful beaches and lush hilly landscapes, Mahe is the largest island in the Seychelles and the gateway to its other islands. While some may stay in the “bubble” of their luxury resort, it’s great to team up with a local guide or set off in a rental car and explore the island (it’s about 45 minutes to most anywhere on the island and pristine empty beaches are easy to find)! We recommend a visit to the Venn’s Town Mission Ruins, the markets in Victoria, and Morne National Park is great for hiking and sweeping views. Beau Vallon’s sweeping stretch of mile-wide beach is popular with locals and buzzes with dining options, hotels and water sport launches.

Just off Mahe lies Sainte Anne Marine National Park, which we recommend visiting on a day trip for those spending significant time on the island. This group of islands boasts lovely beaches for a change of scenery and impressive marine life including bottlenose dolphins and Hawksbill turtles. The various islands are also rich in history; take a look around Ile Moyenne for buried pirate treasure and enjoy a local Creole lunch.

A fairly wide range of different accommodation styles and prices are available on the island. Some of our favorite properties on Mahe include the Four Seasons, the H Resort, Maia and the Hilton Northolme.
