Cape Town

Cape Town is a vibrant and beautiful city nestled between Table Mountain and Table Bay that has thrived since its founding as a Dutch settlement in 1652. Cape Town has activities that cater to all tastes. It is particularly known for excellent food, world-class restaurants, and proximity to the Cape Winelands which produce award-winning wines.

Although Cape Town is a safe city that you can explore on your own, many visitors make the most of their stay by scheduling tours with specialist guides who know the city like the back of their hand. There are a huge range of cultural activities, from a visit to Robben Island where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned to exploring the city’s top-notch art museums and galleries to visiting grassroots community organizations in the townships. There are also plenty of activities for travelers who want to get outside, ranging from hikes up Table Mountain, to kayaking and paddle boarding, biking, whale watching, and shark cage diving.

Most travelers to Cape Town fit in a day trip around the Cape Peninsula visiting the Cape of Good Hope and the playful penguins at Boulders Beach along the way. With the Cape Winelands only 45-minutes away, it’s very popular to take a day trip to the Winelands or to stay there and relax for a few days.

Cape Town truly is a year-round destination with weather that is similar to San Francisco. If we had to be picky, September to April usually yields the best weather (remember summer and winter are reversed) but December and January draw the biggest crowds of travelers. During August and September, the wildflowers just outside the city in the Western Cape are magnificent and the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens are not to be missed.
