Lamai Serengeti Camp and Mkombe’s House

Lamai Serengeti is located in the Northern Serengeti, on the rocks of the Kogakuria Kopje at Kogatende. This is within easy distance of the Mara River where the massive migratory herds cross the waters from July through October, when game-viewing is at its peak. Unlike the many mobile camps in the region, Lamai Serengeti is permanent and suitable throughout the year.

The thatched roofs blend into the hill that they’re situated on, unobtrusive to its beautiful surroundings. Open thatch and stone rooms have stunning views over the Northern Serengeti and the Maasai Mara, and the day beds encourage you to make the most of the vistas. It is sophisticated but not over the top. The rooms are decorated with understated elegance and all have their own private verandas The main area is very welcoming with an inviting library, bar, dining area, and a gorgeous natural rock swimming pool. The food is excellent as is their guiding, which makes for amazing game drives. Throughout the year, in 4×4 safari vehicles across terrain both south of the Mara River and north, when the grass is low and you can enjoy the small valleys, river lines and rocky kopjes on bush walks.

This is definitely one of our favorite properties in the Northern Serengeti (others include Singita Mara River and Serian Mobile Camp). The only drawback is that, because it’s situated on a hill, there are lots of stairs so this is not a good option for anyone with mobility issues.

Lamai Serengeti is technically divided into two independent lodges: Lamai Serengeti, with eight stone and thatch rooms, and Mkombe’s House, an exclusive-use private villa of four rooms. Mkombe’s House offers incredible value as it guarantees your own private guide and vehicle, offering complete freedom from other people and schedules.
