Cape Winelands

The Cape Winelands are some of the most scenic in the world and produce world-renowned and award-wining wines. The Winelands are the perfect destination for foodies and wine-enthusiasts, or someone who is just looking for some relaxation and variety before or after a safari. Only 45-minutes from Cape Town, you can explore the Winelands for just a day or spend 3-4 nights. There are plenty of activities in the region that really showcase what it has to offer: tour vineyards and farms by vehicle, bike and even horseback; visit Bien Donne with its lavender fields, herb garden, manor house and deli; do a chocolate, wine, and cheese tour; take a drive in a vintage car from the Franschhoek Motor Museum; stroll the extensive and imaginative gardens at Babylonstoren; enjoy a bread-making class at Moreson Farm; watch the duck parade at Vergenoegd; or tour artist Dylan Lewis’s studio and sculpture gardens.

We prefer the quaintness and atmosphere of Franschhoek’s B&Bs to the bigger university town and hotels of Stellenbosh. If you’d prefer to stay out in the country on a working wine farm, there are countless options ranging from simple farms to grand estates. It’s easy enough to get around the valley so your choice of accommodation shouldn’t limit the estates you plan to visit. That said, basing yourself in Franschhoek is advantageous if you’re planning for a day on the hop-on/hop-off wine tram.
