Gorilla Trekking

Gorilla Viewing in Africa

We share approximately 97% of our DNA with gorillas, making gorilla viewing in Africa a fascinating window into the behavior of one of our closest relatives. Trekkers get to spend time closely observing a gorilla troop for an hour as they forage, socialize, and play. When clients return from gorilla trekking, they consistently say it was the highlight of their trip, and even their lives!

Gorillas are broadly divided into mountain and lowland (with several sub-species within that). For travelers who want to see mountain gorillas, we recommend Rwanda and Uganda. It is possible to see mountain gorillas in the Democratic Republic of Congo but the on-going instability in the east of the country makes it difficult. For the time being we are not sending clients to Eastern DRC.

If you have already been mountain gorilla trekking in Africa or are looking for a unique and seriously off-the-beaten path experience, then tracking western lowland gorillas in the Republic of Congo might be the perfect adventure. To see lowland gorillas in Republic of Congo, we recommend a trip to either Odzala-Kokoua National Park or Nouabale-Ndoki National Park.

PLEASE NOTE: Children under 15 yrs of age are not allowed on gorilla treks
