Solio is a small polished luxury property, in the Solio Conservancy in Laikipia. The Conservancy is one of the most successful private rhino breeding locations anywhere in Africa, and the endangered rhino are so common here you will see them everywhere, in addition to countless other species of game.
The property is extremely pretty with fabulous views of Mount Kenya that you can enjoy from the floor-to-ceiling windows in your room or on the deck of the main area over breakfast.
We love the cottages with their modern décor, high thatched ceilings, enormous bathtubs and fireplaces, and great views. Each evening you return from dinner to a fire lit in your room, creating a romantic ambiance.
Management and staff are lovely and the food is incredible – within minutes of arriving at Solio everyone knows your name and makes you feel so welcome.
Activities include walking, mountain biking, horseback riding and game viewing, or you can simply relax and soak up the glorious landscape of the ranch or enjoy a spa treatment. Solio’s resident Bushbaby is another highlight.
Although the Conservancy feels small, the luxurious setting and the incredible density of rhino make this a very special place. We think two nights at Solio is enough, but if you do three we recommend taking a day trip to Aberdares National Park.
