Six Senses Bumthang
Perched above a babbling brook on a wooded slope overlooking the valley, everything about Six Senses Bumthang is meant to blend in with the stately Himalayan pine forest outside.
Following the theme of a “forest within a forest,” eight lodge suites and one two-bedroom villa of timber construction gaze upon the mountains. Staged along a slope, suites sit subcanopy, clasped by trees, to evoke the feeling of forest bathing. Through floor-to-ceiling windows, golden sunshine illuminates Japandi-inspired interiors of sharp, clean lines, earthy materials and tones, and an ascetic, clutter-free decor that frees guests from distractions. Each is adorned with a traditional wood-burning bukhari stove, a rain shower, and a small garden with an open-air ceiling.
Shared common areas at Six Senses Bumthang include a library, living room, dining room, and a wellness center.
Six Senses’ dedication to honoring the land it sits on extends to eco-conscious practices like growing fresh, seasonal produce in a kitchen garden. At Tongtshang, the on-site restaurant, artfully plated meals also incorporate foraged ingredients (freshwater algae, hazelnuts, and mushrooms), and traditional staples like yak.
Self-care is core to the Bhutanese way of life, which Six Senses helps you experience through traditional wellness treatments like dotsho hot-stone baths, guided meditations, and yoga sessions.
When you’re ready to branch out beyond this forested sanctuary, take horseback rides to ornate monasteries, hike to hilltop fortresses, and tour temples that date back to the 16th century. But finding your Zen can be as simple as lounging on your villa’s breezy outdoor deck, soaking up the sun and Bumthang valley views by day, or stargazing at night.
