Royal Livingstone
Close to the Livingstone airport, Royal Livingstone is a pleasant colonial-style hotel on the banks of the Zambezi River, just a short distance from Victoria Falls. It is a large hotel with lovely main areas and a beautiful swimming pool. We recommend booking a water-facing room to ensure that you have a decent view as the back-facing rooms are quite bland. For some, staying at a hotel after being on safari feels great while for others it can feel strange to have people around after being in such small and intimate settings.
You can comfortably enjoy sundowners on the hotel deck overlooking the river and watch the mist from the falls caused by the sheer volume of water gushing over the edge. Though the property operates year round, an increase in water levels from May to July makes the Zambian side of the Falls more appealing as the spray on the Zimbabwean side can be overwhelming.
Staying in Livingstone means adding a number of interesting activities to an itinerary: elephant back riding, bungee jumping, white-water rafting, a visit to the Falls or the village, the Flight of the Angels (helicopter ride over the Falls), sunset cruises, or a day trip to Chobe National Park. There is never a dull moment for an active or adventurous traveler. And if activities and adrenaline don’t appeal to you, the hotel is a pleasant place to simply relax.
