Oyster Box Hotel, Opened in 1947 and only 10 miles north of the city, the Oyster Box is a Durban institution, a beachfront resort hotel of undeniable class and elegance. The hotel was beautifully refurbished in October 2009 but lost none of its historical charm and romance. Defining features such as the tiled sign at the entrance, the swing doors, the black and white floors and spiral staircase have all been retained. Oyster Box’s 86 rooms feature California style shutters and an array of South African artwork. Oyster Box boasts three restaurants, three bars, seaside pool and spa. Relax at the swimmingpool, stroll through the vibrant holiday town of Umhlanga Rocks or take a 3 minute walk along the promenade to reach safe swimming beaches. The only downside to the hotel, for those who want to be in the thick of things, is that set a bit north of Durban and not on the main Promenande. For other travelers this might be a plus! The Oyster Box prides itself on generous hospitality, attentive service and exceptional cuisine and it absolutely lives up to expectations, making it our favorite luxury option in Durban.
