Orpheus Island Lodge

Orpheus Island Lodge is a great choice for guests seeking privacy as it’s limited to 10 villas on the entire island. At a cozy 11 km in length, it’s easy to explore the eucalyptus forested hills at your own leisure. Plus, with numerous beaches tucked throughout the island, you get to feel like you’re on your own little adventure anytime you want to get away. This lodge felt both relaxed and luxurious, and we loved feeling so close to nature the whole time.

Guests also have unlimited use of motorized dinghies, catamarans, sea kayaks, snorkeling gear and fishing tackle, so there’s plenty to keep you enjoying the water whatever time of day. We also appreciate the sports director on-site to help direct which activities would be best according to tides and weather. Right in Pioneer Bay guests can visit a giant clam nursery, or stop by the Orpheus Island marine research station. The fringing reef offers some of the region’s most diverse marine areas. Local dive sites are home to 1,100 species of fish on the reef and over 300 varieties of hard coral. The deeper outer reefs are just over an hour from the lodge by private boat, and make a good day trip.

Fishing and day trips to Hinchinbrook Island – Australia’s largest island National Park with where you’ll find waterfalls, secluded sandy beaches, mangrove-lined estuaries and dense rainforest – can be arranged by private charter or helicopter as well.
