Oliver’s Camp

Oliver’s Camp is located in the Tarangire National Park, about two hours from the main Tarangire Gate. This is the perfect place for serious and active game lovers: the game viewing is terrific and Oliver’s places a major emphasis on walking safaris. Oliver’s is a true bush camp, emphasizing game-viewing over luxury. The canvas and wood tents are comfortable, but they are also quite basic. The rooms are open-plan which means that the bathroom facilities are not in a private room (you’ll want to be very comfortable with your tent-mate!). Each tent has (only) an outdoor shower and private decks for admiring your beautiful surroundings and any resident wildlife. The food at Oliver’s is good and the camp is well-managed. If you are a no-fuss traveler, this is a great option for you. However, if you’re looking for luxury, Little Chem Chem or Lemala Mpingo Ridge might be a better option.

Although Tarangire can be visited year-round, April to May is the rainy season, so game viewing isn’t as great. Tarangire is known for tsetse flies which are quite irritating and they tend to be worse during and immediately following the rainy season.
