Built high on the western rim of the Ngorongoro Crater , the Ngorongoro Serena Lodge offers spectacular views of the world heritage site, famous for its abundance of wildlife. Built from local river stone and covered in indigenous vines, this structure is unobtrusive and even invisible from the crater floor. The lodge has excellent access to the Ngorongoro Crater and Lake Manyara and the views are incredible.
The décor is an interesting mix of stone, volcanic boulders, wall-lanterns, and ethnic artifacts; the rooms are simple with good amenities. The Ngorongoro Serena Lodge is geared towards those looking for a less adventurous safari option and is recommended for groups, families, and guests looking for comfort and safety. The Ngorongoro Crater itself offers great game viewing, but it can get extremely crowded during the peak seasons of July to September and December to February. We find that the Ngorongoro Serena Lodge mirrors that experience; it is a nice property with high service standards, but it is a larger hotel which makes it feel impersonal.
