Makweti Safari Lodge

Makweti Safari Lodge is in the Limpopo Province in the Welgevonden Private Reserve, three hours by road from Johannesburg. The game viewing is surprisingly good, and the reserve does have the Big Five within a UNESCO Biosphere.

The lodge itself is beautiful, and the thatch and stone rooms have decks that provide lovely views over the area. There is a swimming pool, optional private plunge pool, spa, and art gallery. Game viewing and walks are conducted by experienced guides and are both exciting and educational.

Because the Wolgevonden is comprised of many small concessions, there are strict rules about where one leaves vehicles and how many staff can be on site. This can lead to an odd dynamic between the staff (hidden in the kitchen) and guests who are served by their guide. That said most of the people we have sent have thoroughly enjoyed their visit.
