Karen Blixen Cottages

Karen Blixen Cottages in Nairobi was originally a hunting lodge, built in the 1900s in the leafy suburb of Karen. In fact, the main building of the hotel used to be home to Karen Blixen’s farm manager.

The cottages are located in the midst of one of the oldest formal gardens in Kenya which have huge jacaranda, candelabra, cactus, bottlebrush, and numerous bird feeders attracting hundreds of varieties of birds. The cottages themselves are comfortable and well-appointed with high-beam ceilings and fireplaces. Each cottage has its own private verandah and the lodge has a swimming pool where guests can arrange private outdoor dinners.

The location provides easy access to the Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage, the AFEW Giraffe Center, shopping and of course the Karen Blixen Museum, which is just around the corner and worth a visit.

While this is a very nice property with beautiful grounds, we find it on the large side. However, it does provide similar level of accommodation to nearby House of Waine at a lower price point and is suitable for guests or visitors who are not looking for an intimate experience.
