Jawai

Jawai Leopard Camp, offers a truly unique safari-style experience in Rajasthan. Almost exactly equidistant from Udaipur and Jodhpur, it is a worthwhile addition to a classic “golden triangle” India program.

Although it is not a national park the area is home to leopard and activities are centered on morning and evening game drives. However, what really makes Jawai worth the trip is the opportunity to learn from and interact with local Rabari herdsmen. These vibrant herdsmen have shared this landscape with wildlife for centuries and you are encouraged to take walks with them to learn more about their culture.

While you are searching for leopard and learning from the Rabari, you still stay in tented luxury. Jawai’s ten luxurious tents are spacious and private. Each tent at JAWAI has a private deck with unobstructed views of the surrounding landscape of craggy granite formations, Anogeissus scrub and winding sand river–beds. The décor of canvas, stainless steel, local stone and leather in the tents and common area lend an understated, modern and light feeling to the camp.

We love Jawai and think it is a really special addition to a northern India itinerary. We would say that while you are likely to see a leopard, we think the true value and draw of Jawai is the stunning landscape and the cultural experience. The camp is open from September 1 to May 15.
