Stylings lean heavily into the mid-century Bossa Nova era which can be seen in Daliesque, ear-shaped mirrors and handsome Sergio Rodrigues leather armchairs.  

Coupled with its beachy location and superior service delivery, we think this property is one of Rio de Janeiro’s best luxury hotels.

Peel away from the pool and head down to Ipanema Beach to sun yourself beneath the parasols of Fasano’s private beach service. Surfboards, volleyballs, and other recreation items are available on a complimentary loan. Bike rentals can be organized for a fee.  

While Spa Fasano Rio de Janeiro is on the smaller side, it’s well-regarded for massages. A soundtrack of Bossa Nova, essential oils, crystals, botanicals, “beauty baths,” and chromotherapy complement treatments such as body wraps, facials, and massage. Guests also have access to a small fitness center and a steam room.

There are 92 guest rooms and suites that range from gorgeous “seafront” views to compact rooms that don’t so much face a courtyard, as a wall. We highly recommend the former. In any case, all lodgings have balconies, luxurious linens, marble washrooms, and those custom-commissioned accent mirrors and armchairs. Upgrading to a Deluxe Sea Front Suite doubles the square footage, offering more room to lounge, and a terrace large enough to accommodate outdoor seating—the perfect place to drink your morning coffee.  

Dining at Fasano Rio de Janeiro

Fasano is home to Gero Rio, an upscale Italian restaurant with a multi-decade legacy before it took up residence at Fasano Rio de Janeiro. Dishes like rich risottos, creamy pastas, seafood, meat, and carpaccio feature prominently on monogrammed plates.  

Casual fare is served poolside—on a sun lounger, at the bar, or atop low tables. Order light eats, fresh-squeezed juices or perspiring caipirinhas from a team of attentive servers.

We highly recommend a sea-facing room or suite.  
All “oceanfront” hotels on Ipanema Beach are, in fact, separated from the sand by a road. Simply use the pedestrian crosswalk to reach Fasano’s private beach service.
