Emerson Spice
Emerson Spice, in Zanzibar’s Stone Town, is a quirky hotel in the middle of the charismatic village. The architecture looks interesting with bohemian furnishings and eccentric touches, but we find it to be a bit shabby and subpar. Guest accommodation is comprised of Swahili antique beds, Arabian flavor décor, en-suite facilities, and a private veranda.
The restaurant, a rooftop tea house, is open for dinner and sunset cocktails and looks out over the town. We think Stone Town is a fascinating village to visit and should be incorporated into all Zanzibar itineraries. The historical value of the architecture, people, and culture ensure a day trip to Stone Town can be a well worth the hours. But if you’re going to stay the night in Stone Town, we would recommend the Zanzibar Serena or Park Hyatt over Emerson Spice.
